The AGM Minutes have been posted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/branches\/s_east\/index.html\">IHBC Branch webpage<\/a> along with details of the new Committee membership.<\/p>\n<p>South-East Branch\u2019s IHBC 2020 working group met on 24 April in Tunbridge Wells and 17 June in Reigate to further develop plans for the IHBC Annual School that they will be hosting in Brighton in June 2020; the focus will be on town centres and titled, <em>Old Towns: New Futures<\/em>. The School will look at economics, place-making, international and technical aspects of successful town centres and will offer a range of speakers, activities and tours around this theme.<\/p>\n<p>A further meeting is being planned in West Sussex in July, with more information forthcoming &#8211; the wider Branch membership is encouraged to participate.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Looking for Professional Volunteering?<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>If you would like to get involved with Branch activities &amp; events, please consider volunteering for a branch officer post.\u00a0 The positions are not onerous, communications happen mainly by email and Branches hold meetings quarterly.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently several interesting Branch Officer positions available. For vacancies see the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/branches\/index.html\">Branches webpage<\/a>s and select the Branch you are interested in.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">IHBC BRANCH EVENTS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">JUNE\/JULY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">29 June \/ 6 July TBC<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>North West Branch \u2013 Anthony Grimshaw retrospective, a joint event with Manchester Modernist Society<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Born in 1936, Grimshaw formed Anthony Grimshaw Associates in Wigan, Lancashire in 1962. He had studied at Manchester Art School followed by Town Planning and Urban Design at Liverpool. The work of the office went from individual (strongly Modernist) house projects in the 1960s to schools and churches in the 1970s and \u201980s, to Wigan\u2019s first purpose-built hospice in the 1990s, and more recently church conservation work. His \u00a357,500 garden gazebo in the grounds of a Modernist house at Alderley Edge \u2013 also designed by Grimshaw \u2013 won an RIBA award, together with the very first Architects\u2019 Journal Small Projects Award in 1996.\u00a0 Two recent conservation projects were shortlisted by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings for their John Betjeman Award and there were several mentions in Pevsner over the years.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u00a0JULY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">13 July<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Yorkshire Branch \u2013 Visit to Wentworth Woodhouse<br \/>\n<\/strong>Rotherham, South Yorkshire<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">10.30am &#8211; 1.00pm<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wentworth Woodhouse is one of the great stately homes of England, largely unknown, as until recently it has remained in private ownership and not been open to the public.\u00a0 As the seat of the Stafford Wentworth Fitzwilliam dynasty it was a Whig powerhouse in the eighteenth century.\u00a0 In 2017 it was acquired by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust to save for the nation.\u00a0 Bookings are now open for a visit to the Mansion and Gardens with their many monuments.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">25 July<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>London Branch \/ CIfA London \u2013 HS2 in London &amp; IHBC London Branch AGM<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Gallery, London<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">2.00pm &#8211; 4.55pm<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The enabling works are under way and construction works are due to start this year. What have been the key heritage considerations? How are the decisions being made and who\u2019s doing the work? What are the various roles of heritage professionals in a large-scale infrastructure project such as HS2? Have they found anything yet? These temporary homes were only expected to be in use for ten years but 70 years on they are still in use.\u00a0 There are no other known surviving Phoenix prefabs still lived in which makes these extra special.<\/p>\n<p>All but one of the prefabs are owned by Birmingham City Council.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2014, Birmingham Conservation Trust became involved and commissioned an Options Appraisal on behalf of the City Council to look at the potential for the Trust to take on one or more Prefabs to run as a museum and holiday lets.<\/p>\n<p>This was followed up in 2016 by Lou Robson\u2019s \u201cConservation plan: Wake Green Road Prefabs\u201d which explored the context for the Prefabs and highlighted not just their rarity and their importance as a group, but also the rarity of their listing and the significance of their interior fittings.<\/p>\n<p>In early 2017 the \u201cPrefabulous\u201d partnership was formed when BCT, the 20th Century Society and the Prefab Museum decided to join forces to work towards saving the Wake Green Prefabs.\u00a0 Funding was secured from Historic England was secured in May 2017 to allow the group to undertake a scoping scheme.<\/p>\n<p>In spring 2018 the scheme was completed and negotiations are currently underway with Birmingham City Council to secure a future for these time-warp homes.<\/p>\n<p>Competences to be addressed:<br \/>\nProfessional:\u00a0\u00a0 1.
