\"person\"The IHBC has congratulated Malcolm Airs – Past President and past Chair of the IHBC and emeritus professor<\/a> of conservation and the historic environment at Kellogg College<\/a>, University of Oxford, as well as contributor\u00a0 to the most recent edition of IHBC\u2019s member journal, Context<\/em><\/a> – who has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire<\/a> (OBE) in the 2019 Birthday Honours<\/a>, for services to the historic environment, conservation and education.<\/h3>\n

Malcolm Airs said: \u2018I am very flattered to have been honoured in this way, particularly as the citation refers to conservation, the historic environment and education. \u00a0All three strands have played a central role in my professional life and now that I am technically ‘retired’ continue to influence all that I do.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018They are all central to the mission of IHBC and I am proud to have been involved in the Institute since its very beginning.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Heritage features strongly in the list of awards and it is a tribute to the professionalism that has been nurtured by the Institute that its importance should be officially recognised in this way.\u2019<\/p>\n

David McDonald, IHBC President said: \u2018Malcolm’s OBE is indeed richly deserved, not only for his contribution to education, but also in his service to the IHBC, and conservation of the historic environment generally.<\/p>\n

\u2018I found his lectures on ‘Tudorbethan’ architecture at the Architectural Association to be very informative and delivered with great enthusiasm. He of course has served as an early Chair of the IHBC and was its first President. In doing that, he set a very high standard.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Those of us who have followed in his footsteps have found that to be not only inspirational, but also an extremely hard act to follow!\u2019<\/p>\n
