The IHBC has warmly applauded the introduction of a new Conservation and Restoration category launched by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) as part of its prestigious Construction Manager of the Year Award (CMYA) for 2009.<\/p>\n
IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said \u2018This important initiative is a clear sign that, despite tough times across the construction sector, conservation strategies are increasingly well regarded for their economic good sense as well as their environmental and cultural benefits. The IHBC is delighted that the CIOB is celebrating specialist conservation skills in such an important arena. We hope other specialist disciplines will follow suit.\u2019<\/p>\n
John Edwards, CIOB Conservation Group Chair and IHBC Wales Branch vice-chair, noted that \u2018This new category carries on the CIOB\u2019s work in promoting the need for best practice in the management of work to historic buildings, and follows on from the successful CIOB conference series on conservation project management, itself carried out with the support of the IHBC\u2019.<\/p>\n
The new award category is designed to \u2018promote and celebrate best practice in the project management of conservation and restoration projects\u2019. The award is open to all site based managers with overall responsibility for delivery of a construction project that completes after 18 March 2008 and before 17 March 2009.
