{"id":2258,"date":"2011-01-11T18:38:24","date_gmt":"2011-01-11T18:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=2258"},"modified":"2011-01-11T18:51:49","modified_gmt":"2011-01-11T18:51:49","slug":"ihbc-localism-bill-threatens-national-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=2258","title":{"rendered":"IHBC: Localism Bill threatens national heritage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The new \u2018Localism Bill\u2019 could threaten England\u2019s historic places, the IHBC has highlighted, as current provisions will allow new local planning procedures to override national priorities for the country\u2019s valued places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jo Evans, Chair of\u00a0 The Institute\u00a0of Historic Building and Conservation (IHBC), the professional body for built and historic environment conservation specialists, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Bill includes precise specifications for new local management procedures to override national cultural interests supported by listing and\u00a0conservation area\u00a0designations. \u00a0The government has already agreed to protect the natural environment under its new planning framework, and it\u2019s unthinkable not to make the same commitment to our historic places;\u00a0 not least for the social, cultural and economic resources that they represent for the people living there.<\/p>\n<p>Only recently\u00a0VisitBritain\u00a0highlighted how important the built heritage is to our tourist industry, so the current position in the Bill could blow a huge hole in our prospects for economic recovery.
