You are the community voice&#8217;. It is pleasing they think of us like this! In our verbal evidence, we emphasised:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>That the civic movement is a national network with 256 members in 70% of local authorities.<\/li>\n<li>We need more meaningful and\u00a0 not meaningless\u00a0participation at the plan making stage.<\/li>\n<li>We shared ideas about how to\u00a0give\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_5612892981299064190_atwhatpointdoyouengage\">civic societies a more formal role<\/a>in the planning system and suggested the idea about introducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/civicvoice.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5128291c803f66657704671f8&amp;id=9879b09b4d&amp;e=78636f19e5\">Welsh version of pre-application consultation<\/a>\u00a0into the English planning system.<\/li>\n<li>We said that developers need to be persuaded to build different types of homes.<\/li>\n<li>We highlighted the Civic Voice Design Awards with particular reference to the housing category.<\/li>\n<li>We finished by saying that we need greater education\/capacity building support to\u00a0assist communities to engage positively in the process e.g. Building for Life 12 training (<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_5612892981299064190_buildingforlife\">see below<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sir Roger Scruton ended the meeting by saying, &#8216;it was a very interesting conversation and that\u00a0he was sorry not be able to discuss longer with us, but that the Commission will certainly be in touch to discuss further&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>We will continue to engage with the Commission, as we feel it is essential that a genuine community voice is heard by <strong>any<\/strong> Government Commission. Civic Voice will be publishing the full results of our Building Better, Building Beautiful survey on May 7th at a Parliamentary meeting with the Planning Minster, Kit Malthouse MP.
