The aim is to get the best from Glasgow’s assets so they deliver value for money and generate income to ensure that essential front line services are protected. The plans were discussed at the city administration committee last week.

Councillor Kenny McLean said: ‘The council is a huge owner of property but it is fair to say it doesn’t add much to communities and may detract from the quality of environment. This strategy is long overdue. It is time to put people in the community at the heart of our plans. This will have maximum effect and be good value for money. We will work to meet the needs of those who live and work in Glasgow. It forms part of the plans to have a world class city and thriving economy where everyone can flourish and benefit from its success. It is recognised that we will not be able to achieve the ambitions of the strategy alone and we will need to work with communities and partners to deliver facilities that are fit for purpose, find solutions which protect heritage and bring ownership into communities and others.’

Councillor Jon Molyneux said: ‘I really welcome this piece of work. I think it is important. It is striking how many strategies this delivers against and following on from that. There is a balance between looking at things like use of vacant and derelict land whether that is used as open space or housing.’ Members unanimously agreed to implement the strategy.

The local authority, Glasgow City Council, has issued a 10-year vision that strives to reimagine Glasgow as a world-class city and bring derelict buildings back to life.

[5

post-21887","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sector-newsblog
["GET
