{"id":21529,"date":"2019-02-01T16:13:56","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T16:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=21529"},"modified":"2019-02-01T16:14:12","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T16:14:12","slug":"liverpool-hires-planning-experts-to-write-new-tall-buildings-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=21529","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool hires planning experts to write new \u2018tall buildings policy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Liverpool-16-Feb-2014-No-30_D_Chetwin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-21531\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Liverpool-16-Feb-2014-No-30_D_Chetwin.png\" alt=\"buildings\" width=\"301\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a>Following a stand-off with UNESCO over the threat to its World Heritage Status, the city council is looking to ensure future schemes do not negatively impact on the waterfront with a consortium led by by Urban Initiatives Studio (UIS).<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: Dave Chetwin<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em>Liverpool Business News<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>A team of planning experts is to formulate a new \u2018tall buildings policy\u2019 for Liverpool following the city council\u2019s stand-off with UNESCO over the threat to the city\u2019s World Heritage Status (WHS).<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO, which oversees famous WHS locations across the globe, had warned that proposed high-rise developments, in particular the \u00a35bn Liverpool Water project, threatened the aesthetic of Liverpool\u2019s world famous waterfront.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 early in 2018 the council adopted a more conciliatory approach. Property giant Peel, the developer behind Liverpool Waters, has also revised its plans by cutting the height of the proposed buildings. Liverpool Waters is not within the WHS zone but is seen as close enough to have a significant impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Now, after an extensive tendering exercise, the city council has appointed a world-leading design consortium, led by by Urban Initiatives Studio (UIS) and supported by heritage specialists from Chris Blandford Associates&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;\u00a0 The council is seeking to adopt the policy as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) by the end of 2019, following a public consultation exercise.
