{"id":20496,"date":"2018-10-16T18:06:05","date_gmt":"2018-10-16T17:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=20496"},"modified":"2018-10-16T18:06:05","modified_gmt":"2018-10-16T17:06:05","slug":"ihbc-north-branch-celebrates-success-in-engineering-cpd-event-ihbcs-professional-and-intervention-areas-of-competence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=20496","title":{"rendered":"IHBC North Branch celebrates success in Engineering CPD event \u2013 IHBC\u2019s \u2018Professional\u2019 and \u2018Intervention\u2019 Areas of Competence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/NorthBranchflier050918.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-20073\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/NorthBranchflier050918.png\" alt=\"event flier\" width=\"300\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>The day-long exploration of \u2018Structural repair of historic buildings\u2019, by the IHBC North Branch and partners, and led by Ian Hume, former Head of Conservation Engineering at English Heritage, held in Carlisle on 4 October last, was a big success, as well as great value, all of which was confirmed in delegate feedback.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018We were delighted to see such relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) support on offer from our North Branch, as we know that support nationally for skills linked to our \u2018Intervention\u2019 Area of Competence \u2013 notably technology and, as here, engineering \u2013 is especially hard to both secure and deliver, even without the great value on offer here.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And we were especially delighted to hear that the Branch could secure the generous expertise of Ian, and that he could offer his deep learning through discourse as much as presentation, because we know that our members learn best, and enjoy most, in that kind of interactive forum\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Jules Bown, IHBC North Branch Chair, said: \u2018It was clearly a great success and I\u2019m pleased we had so many delegates there and such good feedback afterwards.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This shows the benefit of putting on focused, specialist training to meet widely held professional development objectives, as this increases the chance of a sizeable, eager audience.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The opportunity to bring the IHBC to that audience, which included many non-members, was also really useful, with some delegates expressing an interest in joining and attending the Membership Application Training Event which the Branch is holding in November, too.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ian was a great, engaging speaker not afraid to take questions and get the debate going throughout his presentations, which were full of insightful and balanced examples from his long career in historic building structural engineering.
