IHBC Chair James Caird said: \u2018The theme offered is \u2018The planning system is failing to protect conservation areas. What can we do about it?.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018On behalf of the IHBC, I will argue that conservation should be for everyone, and that Civic Voice members et al<\/em> should take ownership of their conservation areas in the same way that individuals have ownership of their properties.\u2019<\/p>\n

IHBC Director Sean O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018We are delighted to join the 2018 Civic Voice conference, especially so with such a substantial topic under scrutiny!\u2019<\/p>\n

Tickets have been selling well for the Civic Voice Conference which is being held at The Rep Theatre,\u00a0Birmingham on\u00a019-20 October 2018. The Civic Voice team are working closely with Birmingham Civic Society in making sure this is a conference that makes a real difference – we don’t want you or your civic society to miss out – so book your place\u00a0now and join groups including Blackpool, Bristol, Cockermouth and Retford who have already registered to attend.<\/p>\n

The focus of the Conference will be on conservation and regeneration within our towns and cities and asking \u2018how can we balance conservation and regeneration?\u2019<\/p>\n

It will build upon our Big Conservation Conversation as we make the case for the importance of conservation areas and the historic environment.<\/p>\n

The Conference will be spread over two days:<\/p>\n

Friday 19 October 2018
\n<\/strong>On the first day we will hear from a number of keynote speakers giving their perspective on\u00a0national issues and what this could mean locally in our communities. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to debate and engage with the keynote speakers and other delegates.<\/p>\n

Saturday 20 October 2018
\n<\/strong>On the second day, we will hold our AGM and this will then be followed by a number of workshops and opportunities for discussion and networking. This will give us all the opportunity to explore subjects and issues affecting the civic movement across the country in detail and hear from recent\u00a0case studies.<\/p>\n

There will be a number of tours and visits hosted\u00a0by Birmingham Civic Society, giving you the chance to see and hear first-hand from the\u00a0Society as they celebrate their centenary year.<\/p>\n

The workshops and tours are currently being finalised and will be announced at the end of August. If there are any particular subjects or issues that your civic society would be interested in discussing – please get in touch!<\/p>\n

The ticket price for the Conference includes lunch and refreshments for both days.<\/p>\n

Friday Evening
\n<\/strong>Friday evening will be a night of entertainment and celebration in\u00a0true \u2018Brummie\u2019 style. Tickets are available\u00a0separately for the evening and include food\u00a0and entertainment.<\/p>\n
