\"website\"<\/a>The IHBC is calling for signatories to the Listed Property Owners Club (LPOC) petition to the Chancellor for reduced VAT on select listed building (LB) works, with the IHBC\u2019s Chair stating that \u2018it is perverse that repairs should be subject to VAT when new development is not.\u2019<\/h3>\n

IHBC James Caird, IHBC Chair said: \u2018The IHBC has campaigned for many years for VAT on repairs to historic buildings and\u00a0supports the Listed Property Owners’ Club in this\u00a0petition.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Buildings are listed because of their importance to the nation and lower VAT on repairs to listed buildings is one way the nation could support owners in their common goal.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Good maintenance is the key to low ownership costs and it is perverse that repairs should be subject to VAT when new development is not.\u2019<\/p>\n

The LPOC writes:<\/p>\n

The Listed Property Owners\u2019 Club is campaigning to persuade the Chancellor to reduce VAT to 5% on repairs and approved alterations to listed buildings in his November Budget.<\/p>\n

HM Treasury\u2019s decision to remove the zero rate in 2012 was a major blow to the owners of listed homes and since that decision there has been a significant fall in owners seeking listed building consent.<\/p>\n

This has obviously had an impact on specialist suppliers like yourself who do so much to help owners protect an important part of the UK\u2019s heritage. As part of our on-going Political Campaign for Owners we have launched a national\u00a0petition\u00a0to make the case for the reduction and demonstrate the strength of feeling across the country about the damaging effects of the Treasury.<\/p>\n

If we can reach 10,000 signatures the Government will have to respond; 100,000 and we may secure a debate in Parliament.<\/p>\n
