Whether a place is listed or long forgotten, our rich and varied history helps characterise our landscape and supports our sense of identity and belonging.<\/p>\n<p>Historic England helps protect and champion our heritage. We cherish both the everyday gems and the famous treasures. Photographing these places and moments in time helps provide a nostalgic and important record of our distinctive cities and regions as well as the way we encounter and enjoy them.<\/p>\n<p>England\u2019s heritage is loved and cared for by millions; our world-renowned, iconic buildings, places and customs draw visitors from all corners of the world. Our heritage stimulates creativity and culture from the great engineers and architects who have shaped our surroundings, to the celebrated artists and writers who have documented the moments and feelings it invokes.<\/p>\n<p>This category is inspired by the beauty, breadth, and brilliance of England\u2019s history, the real rare and rousing sights which best describe who we are and where we\u2019ve come from.<\/p>\n<p>The category winner will be treated to a unique, behind-the-scenes heritage experience plus \u00a3100-worth of Historic England publications.
