The University of Leicester writes:<\/p>\n

The University of Leicester\u2019s MA in Urban Conservation has been officially recognised by the UK\u2019s main professional conservation body.<\/p>\n

This recognition, from the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), gives our graduates a competitive advantage in the employment market and is a strong endorsement from one of the world\u2019s leading professional bodies for conservation specialists of the quality of our MA in Urban Conservation.<\/p>\n

The Centre for Urban History is the UK\u2019s leading research group for cities and our students are taught by experts in urban and architectural history, conservation and planning policy.<\/p>\n

Dr Richard Butler and Professor Simon Gunn worked hard to gain this accreditation, awarded in 2017 and as a result the course has seen a rise in the number of applications, mostly from international students, to 25 for the new cohort.<\/p>\n

The course brings history together with modernisation and is aimed at transforming cities for the 21st century while adapting and protecting historic buildings and townscapes.\u00a0Graduates have gone on to work for a variety of public, private and charity sector organisations all around the world.<\/p>\n

Dr Butler said: \u2018The MA in Urban Conservation offers a professional qualification in managing the historic built environment in cities and towns around the world. It combines academic and theoretical approaches to understanding cities, urban governance, and architectural practice, with more practical aspects of managing and protecting heritage.\u2019<\/p>\n
