American news broadcaster CNN recently featured the \u2018jewel-like tower\u2019 that is Westminster Abbey’s \u2018first new structural addition in 250 years\u2019, designed by the abbey’s official surveyor – Ptolemy Dean \u2013 as, \u2018tucked away in an intersection of the 1,000-year-old building’s Gothic fa\u00e7ade, it leads to a treasure-filled attic that has never been opened to public — until now.\u2019<\/h3>\n

The attic space, renamed the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries, was once described by poet John Betjeman as having \u2018the best view in Europe.\u2019 After five years and $30.5 million (\u00a322.9 million), it can now be fully appreciated by visitors for the first time.<\/p>\n

For centuries, the arcade had been used as storage room. But when permission was granted to build a new elevator, it became possible to open the space\u2026.<\/p>\n
