{"id":18209,"date":"2018-02-23T16:49:12","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T16:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=18209"},"modified":"2018-04-29T16:36:12","modified_gmt":"2018-04-29T15:36:12","slug":"ihbc-and-cotac-sign-memorandum-of-understanding-an-mou-to-help-build-capacity-across-the-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=18209","title":{"rendered":"IHBC and COTAC sign Memorandum of Understanding: An MoU to \u2018help build capacity across the sector\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IngvalMaxwell_JamesCaird_MOUFeb2018_img3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-18210\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IngvalMaxwell_JamesCaird_MOUFeb2018_img3.png\" alt=\"people\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a>Chairs of the IHBC and of COTAC \u2013 The Institute of Historic Building Conservation and the Council on Training in Architectural Conservation &#8211; signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in London on 21 February 2018, so together they can \u2018help build capacity across the sector\u2019.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With both organisations affirming their operational and ethical ties to the 1993 ICOMOS \u2018Guidelines\u2019 on conservation training, strategic commitments in the MoU include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Annual meeting of representatives<\/li>\n<li>Cross-publication of key articles<\/li>\n<li>Business planning strategy (IHBC)<\/li>\n<li>Online conservation training (COTAC)<\/li>\n<li>Mutually discounted rates for individual members<\/li>\n<li>Developing a viable \u2018standard\u2019 for Building Information Modelling (BIM) for conservation practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>James Caird, IHBC Chair, and Ingval Maxwell OBE, COTAC Chair, issued a joint statement saying: \u2018We are delighted that our complementary organisations have agreed this Memorandum of Understanding, and help build conservation capacity across the sector, with all our sector partners.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The MoU recognises that COTAC and IHBC are leading UK bodies supporting skills to secure built and historic environment conservation, while each also has its own client members and service priorities.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018By working together strategically, informed by the MoU, we can together continue to offer model practice in capacity-building and efficiencies.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The importance of the task cannot be overstated.
