\"EDP<\/a>The IHBC\u2019s popular and free MATE seminars \u2013 our \u2018Membership Application Training Events\u2019, that support CPD-linked applications for IHBC accreditation \u2013 have taken another step forward in the private sector as IHBC officers Kate Kendall and Fiona Newton offered staff and colleagues at EDP detailed guidance on membership applications, on site in EDP\u2019s own offices.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Eddy Stafford of EDP said: \u2018This was an excellent seminar that provided valuable advice and guidance on the application process to EDP\u2019s Heritage team, specifically tailored to the needs of private sector applicants. \u00a0We now all have a greater understanding of the approach to case studies to demonstrate our conservation competences and the confidence to submit applications for full membership.\u2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fiona said: \u2018The Team at EDP were mostly IHBC Affiliates already, so we hope this event has helped make them ready to take the next step to Associate or Full Membership. We are continuing to reach out to potential private sector applicants and help them with their specific queries about the membership process.’<\/p>\n

Kate said: \u2018Our private-sector sessions are modelled on our well-respected, Branch-led training events, but are also tailored to the primary needs of the private-sector delegates, whatever their specialist backgrounds.\u00a0 Designed to introduce the thinking and process to anyone keen to find out more about the IHBC\u2019s distinctive approach to accreditation, they consist of an introductory talk and mentored exercises.\u00a0 These help attendees feel more comfortable with a process that is for many \u2013 as we know from our substantial experience here \u2013 a challenging and valuable new CPD-experience in its own right, even for those that don’t go on to apply.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Each group we work with usually has its own specific priorities and concerns, and at EDP hopefully we were able to show that IHBC membership is not just for public sector conservation officers, and demonstrate how the skills sets of private sector colleagues in heritage planning can be a great fit for quality assurance and accreditation by the IHBC.\u00a0 Indeed, more than half of the IHBC membership body is already made up of private sector conservation professionals\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018And although our title focuses on \u2018Building Conservation\u2019, we welcome practitioners from all disciplines and backgrounds.\u00a0 Indeed, our constitution marks us out as one of the earliest heritage bodies to specify the \u2018historic\u00a0environment\u2019 as our primary concern \u2013 not just buildings or heritage \u2018things\u2019.\u00a0 This means we focus on any historic place as an holistic resource, all in a way that is entirely compatible with planning perspectives and skills sets.\u2019<\/p>\n
