The Lowestoft Journal<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n

Back in October, the Lowestoft North Conservation Area was added to Historic England\u2019s \u2018at risk\u2019 register \u2018because of poor quality alterations to individual buildings, which have harmed the character of the historic streetscape.\u2019<\/p>\n

However, plans have been in the pipeline to revive the area and John Glen, Minister for Arts, Heritage and Tourism, announced recently that North Lowestoft has been named as one of the country\u2019s latest Heritage Action Zones (HAZ). As part of a five-year scheme, run by Waveney District Council (WDC) and Historic England, neglected buildings will be brought back into use as housing or retail spaces and the area will undergo general regeneration and transformation.<\/p>\n

A detailed delivery plan for the North Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone will now be prepared for delivery from spring 2018 onwards, and will identify any grant-funding to be provided by Historic England. Heritage Action Zones first came into being earlier this year with the aim of unleashing the power in England\u2019s historic environment to create economic growth and improve quality of life in villages, towns and cities\u2026.<\/p>\n

The WDC-led scheme will see partnerships formed with Lowestoft Town Council, East Suffolk Building Preservation Trust and Lowestoft Vision.<\/p>\n

Michael Ladd, Waveney\u2019s cabinet member for tourism and economic development and Heritage Champion at the district council, said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted that Lowestoft has been chosen as one of the country\u2019s Heritage Action Zones. \u2018We can\u2019t wait to get started on the project and to ensure that the town\u2019s character and heritage will truly benefit the area, and current and future generations.\u2019<\/p>\n
