{"id":1763,"date":"2010-09-11T11:51:08","date_gmt":"2010-09-11T11:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=1763"},"modified":"2010-09-11T11:51:08","modified_gmt":"2010-09-11T11:51:08","slug":"clg-slow-start-to-leps-despite-56-bids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=1763","title":{"rendered":"CLG: Slow start to LEPS despite 56 bids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><strong><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CLG ministers have announced 56 bids to form Local Enterprise  Partnerships (LEPs) designed to revive England\u2019s beleaguered localities,  but few could be approved in the first wave and questions remain over  their scope and clout.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Ministers and Whitehall officials will assess the 56 applications  over the coming weeks as they prepare to replace England\u2019s nine Regional  Development Agencies from 2012 with smaller, more \u2018natural\u2019 local  partnerships between councils and businesses designed to support  economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>But a consensus appears to be forming over a likely outcome from the  first phase of the LEP programme. \u00a0Up to 15 of the strongest applicants  for LEP status could be established as outriders, a move designed to  ensure the initiative succeeds quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Policy experts predicted the first wave of LEPs would be those with a  track record of close working between local public and private sectors,  and operating at sub-regional \u2013 or sub-RDA \u2013 level.<br \/>\nLocal Gov News:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/index.cfm?method=news.detail&amp;id=91670\" target=\"_blank\"> LINK<\/a><br \/>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/index.cfm?method=news.detail&amp;id=91670\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CLG ministers have announced 56 bids to form Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) designed to revive England\u2019s beleaguered localities, but few could be approved in the first wave and questions remain over their scope and clout.
