It reflects the reality of the conservation sector where understanding different contexts and adapting to different languages is essential and that’s what we have transmitted through the Course Connection Day’.

Carla Pianese, Branch & Events Support Officer, who led the organisation of the event said: ‘It was a really good way to communicate how the IHBC works and with useful information on the resources and support available. Each year we improve and adapt the content to the audience and we aim to increase the number of students to maximize awareness of the conservation profession.’

‘This year we were very happy to have our 2016 Annual Student Award winner, Hilary Wyatt, talking about her experience on career development and how to change your career into conservation.’

‘During the networking lunch, the delegates reported different, interesting considerations and perspective on conservation, and international students were delighted to find out more about the UK systems within the profession’.

‘These reflections are particularly useful for us and show the interest and different points of view of the young heritage professionals.’

Amy Ward, student rep on the MA Conservation Studies (Historic Buildings) at the University of York said: ‘I really enjoyed the Course Connection Day, it was great to meet others in a similar position to myself and really helpful in understanding more about the IHBC, including membership and the range of web tools on offer. I especially enjoyed Hilary’s presentation, my route into conservation was unusual too, and so it was great to hear about her transferable skills and CPD – plus she was a great inspiration!’

It’s never too early to apply for the 2018 Course Connection Day!
