{"id":1701,"date":"2010-08-25T16:37:23","date_gmt":"2010-08-25T16:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=1701"},"modified":"2010-08-25T16:37:23","modified_gmt":"2010-08-25T16:37:23","slug":"ni-%e2%80%98town-cramming%e2%80%99-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=1701","title":{"rendered":"NI \u2018Town-cramming\u2019 move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Northern Ireland environment minister Edwin Poots has published  new planning policies to help safeguard areas of established residential  character from town cramming.<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\nPoots said the policies, an addendum to PPS 7, were designed \u201cto ensure  greater control over the density and pattern of development in  established residential areas, and to ensure greater control over  conversions to flats and apartments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not however a blanket ban on redevelopment, flat conversion,  infilling or development of gardens. It is about getting the right  developments in the right places. It is aimed at providing good quality  homes in keeping with the overall character of the existing area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will also help reduce flash flooding in urban areas by encouraging  greater use of permeable paving within new residential developments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a separate but related move, Poots has also announced his intention  to review planning policy for flood risk.
