The cast-iron ‘K6’ kiosk was hoisted out of the ground where it had stood for the last 80 years in a brazen overnight raid. Police have appealed for witnesses to the theft of the Grade 11-listed box which was sited next to a row of 17th century cottages on the Duke of Grafton’s Euston estate in Suffolk. The village’s only phone box was awarded listed status in 1989 stood at its spot since 1936 and having only been bought by its parish council three years ago.<\/p>\n

Councillor Andrew Smith said: \u2018It’s just nibbling away at our heritage.<\/p>\n

The old boxes are made of cast iron and that’s not worth that much so I’m not sure why they would take it. It’s quite disappointing because they are quite iconic, specially in a village.\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n

A spokesman for BT said: \u2018We’ve been in touch with a representative from the local authority and we’re hoping to make a decision on the future of the telephone service in the next few weeks.\u2019<\/p>\n
