\"\"<\/a>Alnwick Civic Society has secured \u00a36,600 for a special publishing project on local \u2018Heritage Heroes\u2019, thanks to seed-funding from the IHBC and Civic Voice, and now 2,000 copies can be made available at no cost for local groups, schools, residents and visitors.<\/h3>\n

Joint lead on the initiative for Alnwick Civic Society, and IHBC Past President, David Lovie said: \u2018The project focuses on detailing the contributions made over the years by local people and organisations to the conservation and interpretation of the Ducal town of Alnwick\u2019s architectural and townscape heritage.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018As 2017 is the 50th anniversary of the creation of conservation areas in the UK, the booklet will commemorate this by showcasing the many heritage treasures of Alnwick\u2019s own conservation area through the ages.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We are very grateful to all our funders but especially grateful to IHBC and Civic Voice for the \u2018seed-corn funding\u2019 which always makes it easier to get the rest we need.<\/p>\n

\u2018In particular, the early funding served to demonstrate that at least two well respected community\/professional bodies have faith in our own local Civic Society, which goes a long way to adding special value to our funding applications for our Heritage Heroes project.\u2019<\/p>\n

Alnwick Civic Society writes:<\/p>\n

The 40-page, A4-sized, illustrated booklet will, firstly, take a view of the town\u2019s heritage by researching the positive contributions of a historian, building company and architect from the 19th century, a 20th-century urban geographer, a current illustrator and Alnwick Civic Society itself.<\/p>\n

Secondly, as 2017 is the 50th anniversary of the creation of conservation areas in the UK, the booklet will commemorate this by showcasing the many heritage treasures of Alnwick\u2019s own conservation area through the ages.<\/p>\n

Finally, the booklet will contain informative maps of the conservation area\u2019s boundaries, its protected buildings and a route around Alnwick\u2019s historic centre. The project will also provide opportunities for volunteers to share information through public talks and guided walks aimed at bringing the contributions of Alnwick\u2019s heritage heroes to life.<\/p>\n

Civic Voice writes:<\/p>\n

Alnwick Civic Society, in partnership with the town\u2019s Museum, has landed \u00a36,600 for a special publishing project.
