{"id":16187,"date":"2017-07-25T16:02:22","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T15:02:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=16187"},"modified":"2017-07-22T17:02:25","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T16:02:25","slug":"london-assembly-environment-committee-launched-report-on-green-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=16187","title":{"rendered":"London Assembly Environment Committee launched report on green spaces\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/London_Assembly_GreenSpaces_250717-e1500739319217.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16188\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/London_Assembly_GreenSpaces_250717-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"London Assembly Green Spaces Report 2017 cover\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The London Assembly Environment Committee has launched a report that looks at what measures should be taken to protect and improve the capital\u2019s green spaces \u2018Park life: ensuring green spaces remain a hit with Londoners\u2019.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Committee writes:<\/p>\n<p>The report recommends that\u2026 the Mayor should<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>clarify his plans to increase London\u2019s green space in terms of quality, multi-functionality and accessibility<\/li>\n<li>set out a specific action plan to improve green space data collection to help target investment which improves access to, and quality of, green spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Greater London Authority should examine the feasibility of setting up a single, citywide website to provide key information on all London\u2019s green spaces, including ways to get involved and a crowdfunding function.<\/p>\n<p>Team London \u2013 the Mayor\u2019s volunteering programme &#8211; should assist green space managers in recruitment, retention and satisfaction of volunteers, including assistance for fundraising, diversifying the membership base and connecting with target groups.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor should appoint a Green Infrastructure Commissioner or Champion.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Committee Chair, Leonie Cooper AM, said: \u2018It is no longer the case that we can rely on local councils alone to maintain our parks and other green spaces. The money is simply not available. They will still play a central role, but need support.\u00a0 This report encourages forward thinking to ensure London\u2019s parks and green spaces \u2013 which are renowned throughout the world \u2013 are not only protected but also improved.
