{"id":16139,"date":"2017-07-18T16:10:53","date_gmt":"2017-07-18T15:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=16139"},"modified":"2017-07-17T17:45:16","modified_gmt":"2017-07-17T16:45:16","slug":"ihbcs-context-nos-21-to-44-online-from-british-standards-pre-history-to-early-themed-issues-historic-paints-and-decorative-features-with-added-curtilage-for-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=16139","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s Context: Nos 21 to 44 online &#8211; From British Standard\u2019s pre-history to early \u2018themed\u2019 issues: Historic paints and decorative features.. with added curtilage for spice"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Context_21_44.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16140\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Context_21_44-300x216.png\" alt=\"Context 21 and 44\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a>The IHBC has launched the next stage of its online posting of the complete issues of <em>Context<\/em>, the historic environment practitioner\u2019s best source for accessible expertise in contemporary conservation, as <em>Context<\/em> issues 21-44 are now online, covering the period from Autumn 1988 to December 1994.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018For many IHBC members our <em>Context<\/em> journal is one of their institute\u2019s most important contributions to knowledge.\u00a0 It offers both specialists and \u2013 as Wikipedia testifies \u2013 non-specialists, an expert and extremely accessible resource on all aspects of the diverse and interdisciplinary practice of built and historic environment conservation.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Issues 21 to 44 take us from the days of Context as the ACO\u2019s \u2018Newsletter\u2019, in March 1989, to a publication clearly recognisable as the predecessor of the IHBC\u2019s journal <em>Context<\/em>, with Number 44, from December 1994, covering such practical matters as the challenges of listing modern buildings, and cast-iron shopfronts in Darlington!<\/p>\n<p>These also as take us through some of the early history of the discipline, as members grapple with concerns that still resonate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Context<\/em>\u2019s March 1989 edition, Issue 21, sees Roger France introduce a \u2018British Standard for Historic Buildings\u2019, for which see <a href=\"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/context\/21\/\">http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/context\/21\/<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/context\/21\/#22\/z\">http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/context\/21\/#22\/z<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>The IHBC has only now, nearly 30 years later, issued its own conservation practice principles which can be seen in links from <a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=15952\">https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=15952<\/a><\/li>\n<li>At the same time, the IHBC\u2019s support for BS 7913, the British Standard for building conservation, includes the IHBC offering copies at reduced rates.
