As part of its ongoing webinar series, Preservation Leadership Forum hosted \u2018Preserving and Supporting Businesses in Historic Neighborhoods\u2019 in collaboration with NeighborWorks America. This webinar examined how small local businesses contribute to the vitality of older neighborhoods by not only offering essential service but also serving as community anchors and strengthening neighborhoods\u2019 unique sense of place. The conversation focused on efforts to preserve and support businesses in historic neighborhoods in San Francisco, California, and Houston, Texas. Mike Buhler from San Francisco Heritage described the organization\u2019s efforts to create a Legacy Business Registry & Preservation Fund, and Zarana Sanghani and Kathy Flanagan-Payton from Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation discussed their work restoring historic buildings and supporting both old and new businesses in Houston\u2019s Fifth Ward. Listeners also heard from Paul Singh, a representative from NeighborWorks America.<\/p>\n
