When it opened in 1906, Victoria Baths was described as \u2018the most splendid municipal bathing institution in the country\u2019 and \u2018a water palace of which every citizen of\u00a0Manchester\u00a0can be proud\u2019\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Newcastle\u00a0upon Tyne, Grade II-listed Turkish baths \u2013 closed by the council in 2013 \u2013 will reopen next year after the council granted planning permission for a \u00a35m redevelopment\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>In nearby Tynemouth, a planning application has been submitted to restore the lido at the end of Longsands beach to its former glory\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Bramley Baths in Leeds reopened as a social enterprise in 2013\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In London, the \u00a325m restoration\u00a0of Kentish Town\u2019s Victorian baths proved an instant hit when it reopened six years ago and is now run successfully by the\u00a0social enterprise GLL\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>In Birmingham, another Edwardian swimming pool looks likely to be saved from closure after campaigners secured grant funding.
