\"Historic<\/a>Historic England (HE), in conjunction with the East Midlands Master Thatchers\u2019 Association (EMMA) and the IHBC, hosted by our East Midlands Branch, offer another remarkable day of IHBC-recognised CPD on the \u2018Conservation of Thatch\u2019, 17 May in Peterborough, from \u00a340+VAT for IHBC members, led by Alison Henry of Historic England.<\/h3>\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018The IHBC is delighted to partner again in another \u2018Conservation of Thatch\u2019 day, and offer delegates a unique blend of understanding and insight into the practice, principles and policy of thatch, from its intangible and material heritage to its conservation, future and threats.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It is especially good for the IHBC to be able to offer special rates for IHBC members, while we encourage especially both members and non-members in local authorities to extend their skills and understanding of this remarkable heritage.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Talks and demonstrations on the day are wide ranging, and encompass all the IHBC\u2019s \u2018Areas of Competence\u2019, the conservation learning framework for accredited membership of the IHBC\u2019.<\/p>\n

The organisers write:<\/p>\n

Historic England, in conjunction with the East Midlands Master Thatchers\u2019 Association and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, is holding a one-day seminar on the conservation of traditional thatch at The Northampton Suite, East of England Showground at Peterborough on Wednesday 17th May 2017.<\/p>\n

The presentations will outline the archaeological and documentary evidence contributing to our understanding of traditional thatch and thatching in England, the contribution that historic thatch makes to the significance of historic buildings, the factors contributing to the deterioration of thatch, repair of traditional thatch, and the issues relating to applications for listed building consent for re-thatching of listed buildings.<\/p>\n

During the afternoon there will be practical demonstrations of the three main thatch types. There will also be an update on the current Historic England research into the causes of fires in thatched buildings.<\/p>\n

The day will be of interest to conservation officers and other building conservation professionals, thatchers, and those responsible for the maintenance and repair of thatched buildings.<\/p>\n
