The Museum of Ironbridge writes:<\/p>\n
On 8 April 2017, after a six-month redevelopment, the new Coalbrookdale Museum\u00a0<\/strong>of Iron opens to the public. Situated in the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, Shropshire, the Museum of Iron forms the centrepiece of the celebrations marking 50 years of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust\u2019s conserving the heritage of this unique site that is internationally recognised as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The crucial importance of iron in the world and in our lives will be told through the new museum.\u00a0<\/strong>As well as being shaped by its geology, the museum also tells the story of the people whose tenacity and ingenuity catapulted Coalbrookdale into the start of the Industrial Revolution.<\/p>\n To mark 50 successful years of running one of the world\u2019s largest independent museums, the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust plans to mark this milestone by staging a number of anniversary events throughout 2017.<\/p>\n Alongside its anniversary events programme, the Trust is also looking to the future and will use the opening of the Museum of Iron to launch the Coalbrookdale Masterplan and its associated fundraising appeal,\u00a0that builds on the work carried out to date and supports further developments and improvement of the site.<\/p>\n
