{"id":15285,"date":"2017-03-31T18:25:20","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T17:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=15285"},"modified":"2017-03-31T18:25:20","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T17:25:20","slug":"nts-ceo-adopts-industry-analogy-to-argue-merger-with-hes-almost-inevitable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=15285","title":{"rendered":"NTS CEO adopts \u2018industry analogy\u2019 to argue: \u2018Merger with HES almost inevitable\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Simon Skinner, chief executive of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) &#8211; Scotland\u2019s biggest conservation charity &#8211; has said he believes it is almost inevitable that it will merge with the newly created heritage charity and public body Historic Environment Scotland (HES), because \u2018If you go to an industry analogy, you have back offices we both run, payroll systems, we have conservators, they have conservators.\u2019<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>NTS chief executive Simon Skinner, who was appointed in 2015 with a \u2018reform\u2019 agenda,\u00a0has admitted the charity \u2018occupies the same space\u2019 as Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which describes itself as \u2018the lead public body set up to investigate, care for and promote Scotland\u2019s historic environment\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Skinner, who holds an MBA and was previously Chief Executive of Aegon Ireland Plc, after serving in a succession of senior leadership posts within the wider Aegon UK group of pension, insurance and investment businesses, said the bodies have a \u2018shared agenda\u2019 and referring to a possible merger, said: \u2018Over time, it is almost inevitable. The same space is being occupied and we need to look at that.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u2018I think elements of it could come together. I don\u2019t see why you wouldn\u2019t.
