Plans to demolish one of Glasgow\u2019s oldest buildings for a towering student flat development have been submitted to Glasgow City Council.<\/h3>\n

If the proposal goes ahead, the 12-storey, 426-bed flat complex will replace the Old College Bar, said to be the oldest pub in Glasgow.<\/p>\n

The High Street pub building dates back to the early 1800s, although the foundations are older \u2013 in fact, there are references to a building on the same as far back as the late 1500s, and historian Diana Connell submitted a note on the planning application on January 11 stating that the building\u2019s sub structure \u201cprobably dates to about 1470\u201d.<\/p>\n

Despite its history, the Old College Bar remains unlisted \u2013 although the planning application, submitted in December, notes that it is within a conservation area.<\/p>\n
