{"id":14713,"date":"2017-01-21T15:32:37","date_gmt":"2017-01-21T15:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=14713"},"modified":"2017-01-21T15:32:37","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T15:32:37","slug":"developers-fined-for-removing-historic-fixtures-from-every-room-of-lincoln-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=14713","title":{"rendered":"Developers fined for removing historic fixtures from every room of Lincoln home"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>A property development company has been ordered to pay more than \u00a355,000 after ignoring heritage planners and removing historic fabric and fixtures from a listed building without consent, according to the <em>Lincolnite<\/em>.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Lincolnite <\/em>writes:<\/p>\n<p>Newell\u2019s Projects Limited, its director David Newell and Paul Priestley, a site manager employed by the company, had all previously pleaded guilty to six offences relating to the removal of irreplaceable features at the grade-II listed Castle Moat House.<\/p>\n<p>City of Lincoln Council took action against the three parties after discovering the unapproved alterations to the property, situated on Drury Lane, close to Lincoln Castle, in February 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Castle Moat House was built within the moat of Lincoln Castle in around 1820 as a large family home. Further additions and improvements were made to it during the mid-19th century. Many of the historic features damaged or destroyed by the developer date from these periods.<\/p>\n<p>The offences were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>removing historic lime plaster wall surfaces in 12 rooms<\/li>\n<li>removing historic ceilings in seven rooms<\/li>\n<li>removing a section of historic roof purlin and rafters<\/li>\n<li>removing decorative cornices and skirting boards in four and 14 rooms respectively<\/li>\n<li>creating two new doorways through internal walls<\/li>\n<li>removing historic timber lintels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At a sentencing hearing at the magistrates\u2019 court, District Judge Peter Veits ordered the three parties to pay a total of \u00a355,410.
