{"id":14634,"date":"2017-01-11T17:10:19","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T17:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=14634"},"modified":"2017-01-11T17:10:19","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T17:10:19","slug":"nbs-opens-national-bim-survey-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=14634","title":{"rendered":"NBS opens National BIM Survey 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The seventh annual BIM survey from the NBS, the construction specification organisation, allows respondents to comment on the introduction of the Government\u2019s 2016 BIM mandate, while no closing date is stated.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Nearly one year on from the UK Government&#8217;s 2016 mandate for collaborative 3D BIM on all centrally-funded projects, the NBS is gathering views on BIM adoption and how the BIM mandate has affected projects. It will use this information to inform the industry and to help improve the tools and information it provides to support BIM project work.<\/p>\n<p>The survey is aimed at UK construction professionals (including architects, engineers, surveyors and contractors), manufacturers and policy makers.<\/p>\n<p>Findings from the 2016 survey include:<\/p>\n<p><u>BIM adoption<\/u> \u2013 a majority were now aware of and using BIM on at least some of their projects (54%), 42% said they were just aware of BIM, and 4% were neither aware nor using<\/p>\n<p><u>Skills and abilities<\/u> \u2013 almost half of respondents described themselves as being \u2018very\u2019 or \u2018quite\u2019 confident of their BIM knowledge and skills, leaving a majority who are not<\/p>\n<p><u>Use of standards<\/u> \u2013 65% of respondents believed that BIM is not yet sufficiently standardised. 22% neither agreed nor disagreed and 13% disagreed with the statement<\/p>\n<p><u>Creating designs<\/u> \u2013 80% of respondents produced 2D models, and 70% 3D. 74% said that they have adopted collaborative techniques and this collaboration extended to sharing models<\/p>\n<p><u>Types of projects<\/u> \u2013 people were generally more likely to use BIM in public sector projects but there was evidence of significant BIM adoption in private housing, private offices and private leisure<\/p>\n<p><u>Attitudes towards BIM<\/u> \u2013 people continued to be largely positive with three quarters seeing it as the future of project information<\/p>\n<p><u>BIM and Government policy<\/u> \u2013 77% of respondents said they were aware of levels of BIM maturity<\/p>\n<p><u>The BIM advantages<\/u> \u2013 63% believed BIM will help bring about a 33% reduction in the initial cost of construction and whole life cost of built assets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenbs.com\/knowledge\/national-bim-report-2016\" target=\"_blank\">Read the 2016 survey results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenbs.com\/knowledge\/nbs-national-bim-survey-2017\" target=\"_blank\">Complete the 2017 survey<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The seventh annual BIM survey from the NBS, the construction specification organisation, allows respondents to comment on the introduction of the Government\u2019s 2016 BIM mandate, while no closing date is stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-14634","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sector-newsblog"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14634","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=14634"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14634\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":14635,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14634\/revisions\/14635"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=14634"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=14634"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=14634"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
