{"id":14248,"date":"2016-11-23T16:08:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T16:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=14248"},"modified":"2016-11-22T18:47:49","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T18:47:49","slug":"ihbcs-bigger-picture-newsblog-government-response-to-be-select-committee-says-historic-environment-is-a-resource-of-significant-cultural-social-and-economic-value","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=14248","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s \u2018bigger picture\u2019 NewsBlog: Government Response to BE Select Committee says \u2018historic environment is a resource of significant cultural, social and economic value\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The Government\u2019s response to the House of Lords Select Committee on the Built Environment (BE), says it \u2018recognises that England\u2019s historic environment is a resource of significant cultural, social and economic value\u2019.<\/h3>\n<p>The 44 page document is the response to the Select Committee report on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/ld201516\/ldselect\/ldbuilt\/100\/10002.htm\">the Built Environment<\/a>\u00a0published February 2016. This earlier report said that \u2018England lacks a proactive, long-term national strategy for managing our historic environment, as part of planning for the future of the built environment. We believe that such a strategy, which would recognise the full value of our built heritage as a unique national and local asset, central to place-making, should be articulated for the future.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As well as recognising England\u2019s historic environment, the Government said it has \u2018has set in place frameworks that promote its conservation and management\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Government also responded to a request to not move ministerial responsibility for heritage from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to the Department for Communities and Local Government.
