The CPRE used the Government\u2019s pilot brownfield register scheme to estimate that brownfield sites could provide between 1.1 and 1.4 million new homes.<\/p>\n
CPRE looked at the data on suitable sites from 53 councils and estimated that these areas could provide 273,000 homes. Using the latest data available from 2010-2012, it found an 11% increase in the number of homes that could be provided on these sites. Applying his increase across the whole country resulted in a new estimated minimum capacity of 1.1 million homes.<\/p>\n
It also used another methodology to extrapolate the figures from the pilot register based on their rural\/urban classification. Together with the London Land Commission\u2019s data, this gave a minimum estimate of 1.4 million homes.<\/p>\n
