{"id":1406,"date":"2010-06-18T17:46:14","date_gmt":"2010-06-18T17:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=1406"},"modified":"2010-06-18T17:46:14","modified_gmt":"2010-06-18T17:46:14","slug":"dcms-savings-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=1406","title":{"rendered":"DCMS savings announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The government has pulled the plug on Denton Corker Marshall\u2019s \u00a327.5 million Stonehenge Visitor\u2019s Centre and a \u00a345 million grant for the BFI Film Center.<\/div>\n<p>The projects are among 12, together worth \u00a32 billion, that have been slashed as part of the government\u2019s public spending.<\/p>\n<p>A further 12, worth \u00a38.5 million have been suspended including Denton Corker Marshall\u2019s Birmingham Magistrates Court, which as BD revealed earlier this month has been &#8216;indefinitely postponed&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the House of Commons today (Thursday) Danny Alexander, the chief secretary to the Treasury, said that the projects did &#8216;not represent good value for money&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of the poor decisions made by the previous government, I have taken the decision to cancel certain projects that do not represent good value for money, and suspend others pending full consideration in the spending review,\u201d said Alexander.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also found another spending black hole in the previous government\u2019s plans &#8211; projects had been approved with no money in place to pay for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the Stonehenge visitor\u2019s centre at Airman\u2019s Corner, which was due for completion in time for the 2012 Olympics, were finally revealed last year after decades of delays and a change of site.
