Commissioners provide expert advice and guidance on heritage matters and have corporate responsibility for establishing the overall strategic direction of the organisation and for monitoring its performance against strategic objectives and targets. Commissioners ensure that the organisation carries out its statutory responsibilities, maintaining high standards of probity in the administration of public funds and the effective use of resources.<\/p>\n<p>The Person:<br \/>\nAll English Heritage Commissioners will be expected to contribute effectively to the overall work of the Commission and should be able to demonstrate:<br \/>\n* An understanding of English Heritage\u2019s work, along with a commitment to its aims \u00a0and objectives.<br \/>\n* An understanding of the wider environment in which English Heritage operates.<br \/>\n* An ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment<br \/>\n* An ability to work constructively with fellow Commissioners and wider \u00a0stakeholders.<br \/>\n* An ability to represent their own area of expertise in the full range of Commission \u00a0discussions.<br \/>\n* An ability to challenge, as well as support, the executive team on a full range of \u00a0English Heritage issues, taking a corporate view beyond their own areas of \u00a0expertise.<\/p>\n<p>Specific Blend of Skills &amp; Experience:<\/p>\n<p>Post 1 &#8211; Education\/Community Engagement<\/p>\n<p>* A sound understanding of education policy as it affects all stages of learning and \u00a0formal\/informal learning.<br \/>\n* An ability to be an effective advocate for history education.<br \/>\n* A commitment to and experience of engaging wider public audiences through \u00a0learning.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate knowledge of at least one of the following:<\/p>\n<p>* The Place Making Agenda<br \/>\n* Community Consultation \/ Engagement<br \/>\n* Volunteering.<\/p>\n<p>Post 2 &#8211; \u00a0Local Authority Representation<\/p>\n<p>* Knowledge of all aspects of local authority responsibility.<br \/>\n* Experience of how national historic environment policy impacts on local authorities.<br \/>\n* An ability to represent the views of local authorities in the development of English \u00a0Heritage programmes and priorities.<br \/>\n* An ability to be an advocate for historic environment issues within the Local \u00a0Authority arena.<\/p>\n<p>Remuneration<br \/>\nEvery Commissioner receives an allowance. Some receive an additional sum directly linked to responsibilities undertaken such as chairing an Advisory Committee and\/or duties as a regional Commissioner.
