{"id":13243,"date":"2016-07-16T15:36:24","date_gmt":"2016-07-16T14:36:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=13243"},"modified":"2016-07-16T15:36:24","modified_gmt":"2016-07-16T14:36:24","slug":"future-of-public-parks-parliamentary-inquiry-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=13243","title":{"rendered":"Future of public parks parliamentary inquiry launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The Parliamentary Communities and Local Government (CLG) Committee launches an inquiry into public parks to examine the impact of reduced local authority budgets on these open spaces and consider concerns that their existence is under threat, with an online survey, web forums and a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CommonsCLG\">Twitter<\/a> hashtag, #myparkmatters, and written submissions due by 30 September 2016.<\/h3>\n<p>The CLG Committee writes:<\/p>\n<p>The Committee looks at how parks should be supported now and in the future. This includes studying alternative management and funding models, such as a mutual or a trust.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Committee invites submission of written evidence to its website on the following issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who uses parks and open spaces, how often and for what<\/li>\n<li>The contribution of parks to the health and well-being of communities<\/li>\n<li>The impact of reductions in local authority budgets on parks<\/li>\n<li>What the administrative status of parks should be in light of declining local authority resources for non-statutory services<\/li>\n<li>How new and existing parks can best be supported<\/li>\n<li>What additional or alternative funding is available and what scope is there for local authorities to generate revenue from park users<\/li>\n<li>What the advantages and disadvantages are of other management models, such as privatisation, outsourcing or mutualisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Committee would be grateful to receive written submissions by 30 September 2016.<\/p>\n<p><u>Get involved<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The Committee wants to encourage as many people as possible to contribute to the inquiry. In addition to a face-to-face survey in parks across the country, the Committee is organising an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartsurvey.co.uk\/s\/HO3PU\/\">online survey<\/a>, web forums and a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CommonsCLG\">Twitter<\/a> hashtag, #myparkmatters, where people can let the Committee know why they value their local parks.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee will also be working with the House of Commons Education Service&#8217;s network of Teacher Ambassadors to engage with children and young people.
