{"id":12943,"date":"2016-06-11T15:37:31","date_gmt":"2016-06-11T14:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=12943"},"modified":"2016-06-11T15:50:57","modified_gmt":"2016-06-11T14:50:57","slug":"pig-farmers-pan-planning-for-generating-antibiotic-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=12943","title":{"rendered":"Pig farmers pan planning for generating antibiotic use"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Trade body the National Pig Association (NPA) has complained that pig farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to get planning permission to replace worn-out buildings, which is leading to overuse of antibiotics.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The NPA writes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018If government and its regulatory agencies are serious about reducing antibiotics on farms, they should take early action to repair local authority planning processes, which have become progressively more clunky in recent years\u2026\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Keeping livestock in new buildings dramatically reduces the need for veterinary interventions, yet pig farmers in particular are finding it increasingly difficult to get planning permission to replace worn-out buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Therefore, as part of its recently introduced Pig Industry Antibiotic Stewardship Programme, NPA is urging Government to issue binding guidance on four fronts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That the level of detail demanded by planners should be proportionate to the scale of the application.?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That planners should reject all attempts at interference by animal rights and vegan organisations, as such organisations are opposed to all livestock farming on principle, and their arguments are irrelevant to the planning process.?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That planners should not accept representations from third parties after a consultation period has ended, as it adds cost and uncertainty for the planning applicant.?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That strict timelines should be observed by statutory consultees such as the Environment Agency, to prevent unfeasible delays in the planning process.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Read the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npa-uk.org.uk\/Pages\/Press_Releases.html\">press release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trade body the National Pig Association (NPA) has complained that pig farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to get planning permission to replace worn-out buildings, which is leading to overuse of antibiotics.
