{"id":12398,"date":"2016-03-30T16:11:33","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T15:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=12398"},"modified":"2016-03-26T15:33:35","modified_gmt":"2016-03-26T15:33:35","slug":"ihbc-spreads-the-word-prospect-magazine-dinner-on-what-do-we-preserve-and-how","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=12398","title":{"rendered":"IHBC spreads the word: Prospect Magazine dinner on \u2018What do we preserve and how\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>IHBC Vice-Chair Kathy Davies and London Branch Chair Sheila Stones attended a dinner on 22 March hosted by Prospect Magazine \u2013 which describes itself as \u2018the leading magazine of ideas\u2019 &#8211; and ch2m, a major infrastructure company, to discuss the question \u2018What do we preserve and how\u2019?<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Kathy Davies writes:<br \/>\n<\/u>The event was chaired by Bronwen Maddox,\u00a0 Editor of Prospect Magazine and attended by a number of key figures in the heritage world as well as some academics and representatives of relevant companies, with invitees including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paul Farrelly, MP, Newcastle-under-Lyme, who sits on the Culture, Media and Sport select committee<\/li>\n<li>Kate Mavor, Chief Executive Officer, English Heritage and past CEO of the National Trust for Scotland<\/li>\n<li>Sir Simon Jenkins, Author &amp; Journalist, Former Chairman of National Trust<\/li>\n<li>Kate Pugh, CEO The Heritage Alliance,<\/li>\n<li>Duncan Wilson, CEO, Historic England<\/li>\n<li>Dr Jennifer Schooling, Director of the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The discussion was wide-ranging and forthright, with many useful topics discussed including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The value of tourism<\/li>\n<li>The impact of housing targets<\/li>\n<li>How to engage communities in managing the historic environment; facadism<\/li>\n<li>How to improve the quality of schemes submitted and of decision making, and much more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prospect is engaging in a programme of work on the future of cities involving public and private sector bodies.
