{"id":12360,"date":"2016-03-23T11:08:18","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T11:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=12360"},"modified":"2016-03-20T18:05:42","modified_gmt":"2016-03-20T18:05:42","slug":"accelerated-construction-degrees-launched-in-nw-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=12360","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Accelerated construction degrees\u2019 launched in NW England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>A new range of degrees is being launched by the University of Salford which offer an accelerated flexible programme around built environment careers in property and construction; students can complete a degree within two years.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>CITB writes:<br \/>\n<\/u>A range of \u2018accelerated\u2019 degrees linked to the built environment sector are due to be offered by a North West university from this autumn.\u00a0 The\u00a0University of Salford\u00a0said the new degrees will represent a first in the UK\u2019s construction and property industries, with students able to access them from September.\u00a0 According to the institution, the degrees will aim to provide greater levels of flexibility to employers, while enabling students to achieve their academic ambitions at an earlier stage.<\/p>\n<p>The accelerated degrees will be available in the subjects of architectural design and technology, building surveying, construction project management, and quantity surveying, along with property and real estate.<\/p>\n<p>CITB\u2019s latest Construction Skills Network reports predicts 330 more construction project managers will be needed each year over the next five years as the industry expands.\u00a0 The accelerated courses mean full-time students will be able to achieve degrees in two years, with three trimesters featuring in each calendar year.\u00a0 They will also be open to those already in work, who will be able to learn on a part-time or a day release basis.\u00a0 The university said it will take these students 36 months to complete the accelerated degrees, rather than the traditional time of 57 months taken by undergraduates studying part-time.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hisham Elkadi, dean of the university\u2019s School of the Built Environment, said the new courses are designed to suit the requirements of both employers and learners themselves.\u00a0 He said: \u2018We will still offer the traditional degree format but are truly delighted to be offering an alternative for those who are keen to progress more rapidly into the profession.\u2019\u00a0 Commenting on the availability of the courses to part-time students as well, he added: \u2018Those in work, who cannot commit to full-time study, can still access our high-quality undergraduate programmes and progress more quickly in their career.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Industry experts have welcomed the plans for the accelerated degree courses.
