{"id":12053,"date":"2016-02-17T15:05:03","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T15:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=12053"},"modified":"2016-02-15T17:28:09","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T17:28:09","slug":"welsh-heritage-sites-to-open-for-free-on-st-davids-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=12053","title":{"rendered":"Welsh heritage sites to open for free on St David\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>On 1 March many CADW properties will be open at no charge, in recognition of St David\u2019s Day<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>CADW writes:<br \/>\n<\/u>Many of Wales\u2019s heritage sites are to open up for free this St David\u2019s Day (1 March 2016), as visitors are given the opportunity to explore and enjoy Cadw sites across the country without charge.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 14 sites will open their doors as part of the programme \u2013 including the spectacular St Davids Bishop\u2019s Palace, located near the site Saint David himself founded his monastery.<\/p>\n<p>The following sites, which normally charge for admission, can be entered for free on Tuesday 1 March 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Beaumaris Castle<\/li>\n<li>Caernarfon Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Caerphilly Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Carreg Cennen Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Castell Coch<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Chepstow Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Conwy Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Dolwyddelan Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Harlech Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Raglan Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0St Davids Bishop\u2019s Palace<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Tintern Abbey<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Weobley Castle<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Blaenavon Ironworks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cadw also has over 100 unstaffed monuments open for free all year across Wales \u2013 from spectacular ecclesiastical ruins like Neath Abbey, once home to Cistercian monks, to strategic coastal strongholds like Flint Castle, famed for its role as site of Richard II\u2019s downfall in Shakespeare\u2019s play of the same name.
