{"id":11431,"date":"2015-11-06T18:15:55","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T18:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=11431"},"modified":"2015-11-06T18:20:12","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T18:20:12","slug":"national-infrastructure-commission-update-100bn-to-spend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=11431","title":{"rendered":"National Infrastructure Commission update: \u00a3100bn to spend!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>The full membership of the National Infrastructure Commission has now been announced, with commissioners named and a government commitment to \u00a3100 billion of spend on infrastructure in this parliament made.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>HM Treasury writes:<br \/>\n<\/u>Chancellor George Osborne will today insist better infrastructure is vital to improve the lives of British people as he commits to \u00a3100 billion of spending in this Parliament for new roads, rail, flood defences and other vital projects.<\/p>\n<p>Launching the new National Infrastructure Commission, led by former Cabinet Minister Lord Adonis, the Chancellor will set out plans to \u2018get Britain building\u2019, saying that infrastructure will be at the heart of next month\u2019s Spending Review.\u00a0 In his statement, he will pledge \u00a3100 billion in infrastructure spending by 2020 \u2013 including full funding for the \u00a315 billion Roads Investment Strategy.\u00a0 A suite of asset sales which the Treasury expects to raise billions of pounds is being identified to be ploughed back into infrastructure projects, with more details to be announced at the Spending Review.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the National Railway Museum in York alongside Lord Adonis, the Chancellor will also confirm the hugely experienced group who will make up the independent National Infrastructure Commission \u2013 the new independent body that has been set up to determine Britain\u2019s infrastructure priorities and hold governments to account for their delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lord Heseltine \u2013 the former deputy prime minister who has long championed the regeneration of Britain\u2019s inner cities through infrastructure investment<\/li>\n<li>Sir John Armitt \u2013 the former chair of the Olympic Delivery Authority, and next year\u2019s President of the Institute of Civil Engineers<\/li>\n<li>Professor Tim Besley \u2013 a former member of the Bank of England\u2019s Monetary Policy Committee and the LSE\u2019s Growth Commission, which recommended an independent infrastructure body<\/li>\n<li>Demis Hassabis \u2013 artificial intelligence researcher, neuroscientist and head of DeepMind Technologies<\/li>\n<li>Sadie Morgan \u2013 a founding director of dRMM Architects and Design Panel Chair of HS2<\/li>\n<li>Bridget Rosewell \u2013 a senior adviser at Volterra and former Chief Economist and Chief Economic Adviser to the Greater London Authority<\/li>\n<li>Sir Paul Ruddock \u2013 chairman of the Victoria &amp; Albert Museum and the University of Oxford Endowment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The commission will produce a report at the start of each five-year Parliament, offering recommendations for priority infrastructure projects.Its initial focus will be in three key areas.
