{"id":1088,"date":"2010-02-22T13:47:14","date_gmt":"2010-02-22T13:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=1088"},"modified":"2010-03-24T13:47:30","modified_gmt":"2010-03-24T13:47:30","slug":"cutty-sark-funding-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=1088","title":{"rendered":"Cutty Sark funding confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The historic clipper Cutty Sark will be  restored to its former glory following news that the final parts of the  \u00a346 million funding package are now in place.<\/p>\n<p>Conservation of  Cutty Sark will be finally completed at Greenwich next year.<\/p>\n<p>Final  funding to finish the project in time for Olympic and Diamond Jubilee  celebrations in 2012 has been provided by a \u00a33 million grant from the  Department for Culture, Media and Sport. \u00a0Cutty Sark\u2019s mast and spars  will again tower over the World Heritage Site, now to be celebrated as  \u2018The Royal Borough of Greenwich\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Gordon Brown  said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone was shocked and saddened as we watched those  terrible images of fire on the news. \u00a0People wondered then whether Cutty  Sark could ever be brought back to its former glory. \u00a0Well, today\u2019s  announcement means that the historic clipper &#8211; that much-loved part of  our maritime heritage since it was installed at Greenwich more than 50  years ago &#8211; will once again be open to the public \u2013 and in pristine  condition \u2013 in time for the Olympics: yet another jewel for visitors in  2012 to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.culture.gov.uk\/reference_library\/media_releases\/6617.aspx\" href=\"http:\/\/www.culture.gov.uk\/reference_library\/media_releases\/6617.aspx\">LINK  to Press Release<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The historic clipper Cutty Sark will be restored to its former glory following news that the final parts of the \u00a346 million funding package are now in place.
