Do you think it has the potential to win one of our coveted 10 England’s Great Places awards and perhaps even be crowned the overall winner as England’s Greatest Place?

Members of the public are being asked to take part in a new competition launched today designed to celebrate some of our most attractive and inspiring places. England’s Great Places has been established as part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the membership body for the UK & Ireland’s planning professionals.

Janet Askew, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) said: ‘Your great place could be a natural landscape, a historic town, perhaps a national park. It might be a vibrant and diverse community you are especially proud of, a special place within a city, a stunning cultural quarter or a neighbourhood. You could nominate an area that has undergone significant regeneration and has been transformed by that process. Your nomination could be a place that has changed over time to meet the needs of its communities. There is no single definition of a ‘great place.’ We are leaving that up to you. We want your suggestions.’

‘As part of our centenary we wanted to celebrate the great places we have in this country. We want to recognise those special places which we now cherish because they have been protected, carefully planned or improved. I expect competition will be fierce and people will be passionate because they care about the places that mean most to them.’

Members of the public can make their nominations until 1 September. An eminent panel will then produce a list of 10 regional winners, who will all go forward to a public vote to find England’s Greatest Place.

Nominating is simple:

Visit www.rtpi.org.uk

Tweet your place: @rtpiplanners or use #rtpigreatplaces

Instagram your place: rtpiplanners

Has the place you are most proud of got what it takes to be named the overall winner of England’s Great Places competition?

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and its members have been working with communities for a century to help create great places for people. Each place nominated will also be judged against how it was shaped, protected or improved by planners and the planning system.

View more information on the project

View the RTPI Instagram feed

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has launched a competition designed to get people talking about how town planning shapes places, by nominating their favourite place in England, with submissions to be made via an online form or via social … Continue reading →

[5

post-10717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sector-newsblog
["GET
