CITB writes:
\n<\/u>Construction professionals are earning nearly double the national average salary, new research has revealed.<\/p>\n
They are currently taking home \u00a340,782, surpassing the national average salary of \u00a328,186 by a huge \u00a312,596, or 45%, according to recruitment firm Randstad.<\/p>\n
Bringing in around \u00a348,385, workers in London receive the biggest pay cheques. East England and North West England are also faring well, with average salaries in the construction industry hitting \u00a338,343 and \u00a336,149 respectively.<\/p>\n
Labour shortages could be one of the factors driving up professional salaries, Owen Goodhead, managing director of Randstad Construction, Property and Engineering, suggests.<\/p>\n
\u2018Pay reflects supply and demand – on a local level. Where demand is outstripping supply of the right workers, we\u2019re seeing employers increasingly willing to offer a slightly better deal to attract the right person,\u2019 he told Construction Manager.<\/p>\n
Researchers compiled the data by analysing more than 870,000 CVs and salaries, before comparing regional average wages to those seen across the UK.<\/p>\n
Mr Goodhead said that while London might be leading the way with the high volume of construction projects in the pipeline, cities in the North are also performing well.<\/p>\n
He said: \u2018Simple anecdotal evidence doesn\u2019t do justice to the opportunities available on the construction projects that bristle and jostle for space along the London skyline and across the capital\u2019s suburbs.<\/p>\n
\u2018Manchester is leading the North West in a new frontier of economic growth, and big infrastructure projects are rolling out from the Thames Valley to Merseyside.\u2019<\/p>\n
