{"id":10311,"date":"2015-05-22T18:43:50","date_gmt":"2015-05-22T17:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=10311"},"modified":"2015-05-22T18:43:50","modified_gmt":"2015-05-22T17:43:50","slug":"cities-devolution-bill-to-be-within-queens-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=10311","title":{"rendered":"Cities Devolution Bill to be within Queen\u2019s Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>Discussions on city devolution and creating a \u2018Northern Powerhouse\u2019 have moved a step further, with the <\/u><u>Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne confirming that the Queen\u2019s Speech will contain \u2018a bill to enable a radical new model of city government\u2019<\/u><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Chancellor Osborne\u2019s speech states:<br \/>\n<\/u>We will hand power from the centre to cities to give you greater control over your local transport, housing, skills and healthcare. And we\u2019ll give the levers you need to grow your local economy and make sure local people keep the rewards. But it\u2019s right people have a single point of accountability: someone they elect, who takes the decisions and carries the can.<\/p>\n<p>So with these new powers for cities must come new city-wide elected mayors who work with local councils. I will not impose this model on anyone.
