The stories to be told include that of the UK\u2019s ground-breaking role in science and industry from the invention of radio astronomy at Jodrell Bank to our unique railway heritage; from one of the world\u2019s earliest factories at Derby Silk Mill to the world\u2019s largest medical collection at the Science Museum. They will increase awareness and understanding of our scientific and industrial heritage, inspiring the scientists and engineers of the future.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a312.1m\u00a0to revitalise Jodrell Bank, Cheshire\u2019s internationally-renowned centre for astronomy and home to the Lovell Telescope<\/li>\n<li>\u00a38m\u00a0to reimagine the Science Museum\u2019s extensive Medicine Galleries<\/li>\n<li>\u00a39.3m\u00a0to restore and open up Derby Silk Mill in the Derwent Valley<\/li>\n<li>\u00a310m to make Great Central Railway, a unique double-track \u2018preserved\u2019 railway between Loughborough and Leicester, the home to a new railway museum with a working track<\/li>\n<li>\u00a39.5m to help the British Library save the nation\u2019s endangered sounds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>HLF is also giving new life to three further museums and a cathedral:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a310.3m to redevelop Dorset County Museum, a geological and palaeontology treasure trove on the Jurassic Coast<\/li>\n<li>\u00a312.4m to restore and open up Lincoln Cathedral, one of Europe\u2019s most spectacular medieval cathedrals<\/li>\n<li>\u00a315m to refurbish one of Glasgow\u2019s most popular museums, the award-wining Burrell Collection<\/li>\n<li>\u00a311m to transform an East London gem, the Geffrye Museum, into a more vibrant and welcoming site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said: \u2018National Lottery money continues to make an absolutely vital contribution to our culture and heritage in the UK.
