{"id":10069,"date":"2015-04-22T17:05:17","date_gmt":"2015-04-22T16:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=10069"},"modified":"2015-04-22T17:05:17","modified_gmt":"2015-04-22T16:05:17","slug":"arts-council-england-big-data-project-for-heritage-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=10069","title":{"rendered":"Arts Council England \u2018big data\u2019 project for heritage tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Arts Council England has made available the results of data which reveals trends in visitor experience and spend at museums and heritage sites, via a new service \u2018Insight\u2019 and are inviting interested professionals to sign up for a free trial for the portal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Arts Council England writes:<br \/>\n<\/span>Following a trial last year, digital research project,\u00a0Insight, is now live and is inviting museums and heritage sites in the UK to join trial participants to receive a free report detailing what factors most greatly influence visitor spend for their site.<\/p>\n<p>The first trial of its kind in the sector, Insight combines information submitted by museums and heritage sites with wider \u2018Big Data\u2019 sets and uses predictive analytic techniques to provide a new approach to benchmarking.\u00a0 Project Manager\u00a0Peter Collins\u00a0explains: \u2018This type of analysis has not been available to the sector before now. In a time where most organisations are focusing on resilience, this interface is tailored specifically towards improving commercial income.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dr Joe Collins, Software Developer at Ryan O\u2019Neil Partnership, says: \u2018We are collecting information across a wide range of parameters to explore what the key drivers may be that encourage, or discourage visitor spend.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Participating organisations can expect to see a personalised online analysis platform and planning tools using benchmarking data that has been collected from participating organisations throughout the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by the Digital R&amp;D Fund for the Arts &#8211; Nesta, Arts &amp; Humanities Research Council and public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England &#8211; Insight is being delivered by three project partners; enterprise experts and cultural sector consultants Black Radley, software developers Ryan O\u2019Neill Partnership and researchers from Bath Spa University\u2019s Centre for Creative Computing.<\/p>\n<p>John Orna-Ornstein, Director, Museums, Arts Council England commented: \u2018Investment from the Arts Council is supporting museums and heritage sites across the country, ensuring people continue to have access to our nation\u2019s wealth of historical collections.\u00a0 In the current economic climate, however, it\u2019s crucial that the cultural sector becomes more resilient, finding new ways to generate commercial income.
